Wolfpacking

I’m happy to report a tremendous failure.

Last month, I submitted a short story, “Wolfpacking,” to about eight different magazines. I wasn’t sure it was ready, but as you may know, I’m collecting rejections.

My goal this year is fifty rejections. Unfortunately, before Wolfpacking had the chance to earn a single rejection, phoebe accepted it for publication. I had to withdraw the story from seven other lit mags, and thus relinquish those possible rejections. Writers make such sacrifices every day.

And not only did phoebe accept the story, their fiction judge, Nick White, selected “Wolfpacking” as the runner-up for their spring fiction prize. Kath Richards’s “Wolves of Idaho” beat me as the winner of the contest–can’t wait to read it! (I’m not bitter.)

I also have a piece of flash fiction (microfiction?) coming out soon at Every Day Fiction. As soon as both these stories are available, I’ll post a link.

Until then…. until then….
